CSA is Landscaping Inspiration
To read about my home garden, click here for a recent article about the German Farm Stock homestead in Spaces magazine.
My brother Jim still lives on the family farm where my brother Steve helps him maintain a large vegetable garden.
A note on the blog title
When choosing a title for the blog, I couldn't ignore my farming childhood nor my German heritage. My love of farm fresh produce started on the family farm in Minnesota. Although I hated weeding the garden, I loved driving the tractor while my five older brothers threw hay bails onto the wagon. I also loved harvest time, and my fondest memories are of canning tomato juice, grinding apples in the food mill, and scrubbing cucumbers in a five-gallon bucket of ice cold water on a hot day.
The "German Farm Stock" title specifically refers to an incident last year at Timber Creek Golf Course where four strangers witnessed me pulling my golf cart up a steep hill. One man commented, "Oh no, she has to pull her clubs herself." To which his companion responded, "It doesn't matter. She looks like good GERMAN FARM STOCK." Yikes, next someone will tell me that I look like I'm good for fixin' fence.
Since I began my tenure teaching high school English in 1998, I have taught British Literature, Composition II, Journalism, Creative Writing, English 10 and World Literature. I enjoy reading my favorite magazines, Newsweek , People and National Geographic, doing crossword and Sudoku puzzles, and settling down with a good book in front of the fireplace. My husband Mike is a criminal defense attorney, and we have two children, Joe, a recent college graduate, and Sarah, a junior high student.
